Breaking away from the concrete jungle of plainness, Dwell Village Melbourne City (DVMC) is iconic as you are nested in a beautiful heritage building, which was formerly the Old Melbourne Motor Inn, a fancy place with its heydays in the 1970s where famous entertainers in the likes of Duran Duran, Liberace, Peter Allen love to stay at. ABBA stayed here in their 1977 legendary tour too. Subsequently, it became “The Chifley on Flemington,” one of Melbourne’s finest international hotels in the 1900s.

Fast forward to modern days, we converted it into a student accommodation and still retained its vintage beauty and strong infrastructure. Think colonial architecture, large open-air bluestone courtyard, and European vintage-styled balcony rooms that open inwards facing the courtyard… We are sure you will fall in love with the beautiful, green compound and feel extra peaceful, relaxed, and safe.

As you pass through the gates, you would not miss the Clock. This copper clock is a piece of history, set on a bluestone base overlooking the fountain in the courtyard, which is now the favourite photo spot for our students and visitors. This masterpiece was also the work of the same clockmaker who did Flinders Station.

For city dwellers who prefer a modern, apartment-style setting, you may choose to stay in our newer high-rise tower, a connecting block to the compound.

Besides our superb location just across the road from the University of Melbourne and a short distance to RMIT, DVMC is preferred due to our high safety and security standards, complete with surveillance and key card room access. We know what you need. The building is well equipped with a spacious, conducive study lounge, a large indoor communal games & activity area, private study rooms, an outdoor swimming pool, BBQ pits, laundry rooms on different floors, and more!

The Room – Your Personal Space

The comfortable living spaces are thoughtfully designed to be your perfect home away from home. We have created different room types and configurations to fit individual lifestyles and preferences.

Choose between having your own private space in a self-contained studio with an ensuite bathroom and kitchenette or a range of our 2-5 bedroom shared apartments with shared amenities and companions.

If you have a tight budget for rent, sharing an apartment is ideal for you as you can save more, yet gain more with the sharing experience. We can even match suitable roommates to share the apartment (they are likely your schoolmates too).

If you love your privacy and need the bathroom all to yourself, don’t hesitate to grab our 1-bedroom studios immediately (they run out fast)!

Your room comes furnished with the necessary furniture and equipment. Without over-cluttering the room with fixtures, we leave the space to you so you can furnish and decorate your room just the way you like it. After a long day of classes and all the fun outside, you will look forward to unwinding in your room at the end of the day.

The good thing about staying at Dwell is the well-designed communal spaces and functional rooms for different activities. The common areas are where the fun vibes truly come alive. These social spaces are perfect spots for spontaneous gatherings and lively conversations. Despite coming from different parts of the world, our residents quickly become friends and they love to gather around the open-concept kitchen and dining area for catchups and dine-ins (yay to food delivery!). We definitely look forward to pizza nights every month (yay to free food, courtesy of Dwell)!

DVMC is special with its own outdoor spaces. The swimming pool and BBQ pit area provide a refreshing escape for hangouts or simply soaking up the sun. The courtyard is perfect for Instagrammable photo taking and relaxing strolls.

Not an outdoor person? Play a round of PS4 game, pool or table tennis with your mates after dinner or when you feel like a challenge. We know you want to keep fit and toned, so we have a well-equipped gym within the building too. For quiet time, the study lounge and cinema room are ideal for you.
